Indigenous Circle (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association) Mission Statement To raise awareness of the issues that affect Indigenous counsellors, clients, families and communities To promote educational opportunities for CCPA members who wish to work with Indigenous communities. To create a network for Indigenous counsellors and non-Indigenous counsellors who work with Indigenous clients, families and communities. To promote counselling as a field of choice for Indigenous peoples. To provide an Indigenous voice within the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. To encourage the observance of appropriate Indigenous protocol at CCPA Conferences
Indigenous Peoples’ Psychology Section, Canadian Psychological Association The purpose of the Indigenous Peoples’ Psychology Section is to: Strengthen and support a network of psychologists, researchers, students and community partners committed to advancing approaches to teaching, research, applied practice, and policy that are relevant to the comprehensive wellbeing of Indigenous peoples throughout Canada and around the world. Advance knowledge of the complex historical and contemporary sociopolitical dimensions of Indigenous Peoples’ mental health and wellbeing. Generate, share and mobilize wise practices within and beyond psychology that strengthen the mental health and wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples, and to prioritize Indigenous research methodologies, epistemologies and lived experiences in the generation of these wise practices. Advocate for the rights of Indigenous Peoples’ in all aspects of mental health and wellbeing and the responsibility of the CPA to take action on calls for culturally-appropriate, critical, community, anti-oppressive and decolonizing approaches to research and applied practice.
